An ancient Chinese breed valuing dignity and loyalty, the Chow Chow has a blue-black tongue, dense coat, unique appearance, aloofness toward strangers while fiercely devoted to its family, and moderate exercise requirements. Though initially wary, the Chow house-trains easily, become reliable watch dogs, and thrive on attention from their special humans who respect the breed’s independence. While not the breed for everyone, for those up to the challenge, the breed can be a nice addition to a calm household and consistency.
