A majestic fluffy white guardian initially protecting flocks against bears and wolves among steep French mountains before its devoted reliability expanded use safeguarding estates worldwide, the calm-natured Great Pyrenees has independent thinking for crisis analysis, willful wanderlust requiring secure fences, jealousy patrols territory through formidable barking, suspiciousness toward strangers contrasting affection toward household members. This breed requires an owner ready for the food bills to match his enormous size, hours of brushing sessions to reduce the shedding and matting of this thick, dense coat, and lots of drool. This is a breed that is naturally protective of his home and needs consistent socialization and guidance to limit overprotective tendencies and moderate exercise outlets including obedience and hiking and generally is not ideally suited for most pet homes.
