Despite their peace-loving, dignified, and thoughtful nature, these majestic dogs command proud respect through their colossal height, aided by muscular frames, long legs, and keen sight. Originally hunters, they have evolved into ideal companions for those willing and able to share their space with such an imposing sized pet that doesn’t believe in personal space. Living gracefully indoors as calm housemates, towering over people with adoring loyal personalities behind their imposing presence, the Wolfhound does require space to stretch those long legs and an owner that has the space and finances to afford the feeding bills, veterinary costs, and extra large vehicle that this breed requires. Shedding is minimal but regular brushing sessions and the occasional bath are needed for optimum coat and to prevent matting. The breed does have a shortened lifespan due to its sheer size and some health issues inherent in the breed. This is not the dog for the average dog owner and deep thought and consideration should be taken before bringing a Wolfhound into your home.
