An energetic mid-sized sporting breed historically assisting Portuguese fishermen retrieve nets and catch then delivering messages between boats and shore. The curly-coated Portuguese Water Dog has webbed feet propelling its strong swimming skills, upbeat working temperament, and playful nature. They are considered hypo-allergenic which make them a good choice for many allergy sufferers, needing only regular brushing and trips to the groomer for clips to prevent matting. Their intelligence and activity level means they do best with active owners providing regular interaction through a variety of physical exercise and activities, along with regular mental stimulation and puzzle games.
