Bred to emulate magnificent lions, the large and powerful Leonberger serves as a steadfast companion to families. With its sheer size and intimidating look, it has the ability to warn off intruders with a single bark. The breed boasts a proud gait, a multi-color waterproof coat, webbed feet, and a quiet-natured self-assurance. Despite its imposing appearance, the Leonberger is an ideal companion for active households, serving as a sociable guardian. It is delightful with polite children yet effectively deters intruders through intimidating barking, warning trespassers about the imminent and dangerous consequences of approaching further. Despite being a giant breed, the Leonberger truly prefers peace and cooperative harmony, maintaining natural levels of normal activity. For the family that can handle the intense grooming sessions required to maintain this gorgeous thick coat, and that doesn’t mind the shedding and drooling that this massive sweetheart is capable of, the Leonberger makes a wonderful companion for those with the space and financial ability needed for this breed to thrive.
